In commemoration of King Gustav Eriksson Vasa’s election to the throne of Sweden on this day in 1523, today’s Doodle celebrates Sweden’s National Day. A date known in Swedish as Sveriges nationaldag, June 6 was also the day when the nation adopted a new constitution in 1809. Declared a public holiday in 2005, Sweden’s National Day is celebrated across the Scandinavian country symbolized by the blue and yellow flag, depicted in the Doodle artwork.
