2019 Women's World Cup - Day 6

The 2019 Women’s World Cup is underway! Over the next month, players from the national teams of 24 countries will compete, with the final match in the biggest Women’s World Cup yet taking place on July 7th in Lyon, France.
We’re celebrating the eighth edition of the tournament with a series of Doodles by guest artists representing each of the competing countries to capture the local excitement of the competition, as well as what the event means to them personally.
Stay tuned for more from the artists, and best of luck to all the players!

Today's Featured Artist Q&A
with early sketches and behind-the-scenes photos

Q: What inspired the visual concept for your final drawing? Is there anything specific you'd like to call out from your work?

France – Aurore Carric
A: For this Doodle, I wanted to focus on very exaggerated, strong body shapes, diversity, and sorority amongst the female players.

Germany – Noam Weiner
A: It was important to me to show the different kinds of people and places in this very big country. Therefore I have decided to divide the image into little "postcards," all displaying different scenes.

Nigeria – Data Oruwari
A: I was inspired by the festive energy of Nigerians when celebrating monumental events. The traditional drummers and dancers in their vibrant and creative costumes represent our diverse and beautiful culture. They create the energy that gets everyone else excited. I wanted this Doodle to capture how they would celebrate our national team in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

Norway – Ingunn Dybendal
A: Our nature and wildlife inspired me. Being outdoors is a very Norwegian thing. We also love cross-country skiing, therefore the goal is made by a pair of skis.

South Korea – Sehee Chae
A: I thought a lot about the tradition of cheering, I thought of a scene where I wore a Hanbok and played a traditional musical instrument. Also, I thought it would be good if the beautiful colors of Hanbok and the traditional flower, Mugunghwa, were combined.

Spain – Nuria Tamarit
A: I got inspired by great Spanish meals, and the idea of celebrating
surrounded by people and food.
