Bulgaria National Day 2018

With the signing of the San Stefano peace treaty 140 years ago, Bulgaria gained independence after five centuries of Ottoman rule. Since then, the anniversary is commemorated on March 3rd each year as Liberation Day, a national holiday. Ceremonial religious services are held in the capital city of Sofia, and a military parade honors veterans. Shipka Pass in the Balkan Mountains - a site of special significance during the liberation struggle - is also often a focal point of the day’s celebrations.
Today’s Doodle depicts the Bulgarian flag waving proudly in the breeze. The three equal-sized horizontal bands of white, green, and red, symbolize peace, health, and courage respectively.

Честит ден на независимостта, Bulgaria!
