Doodle for Google 2019 - US Winner

  • Congratulations to Georgia-based high school senior Arantza Peña Popo, who was announced as the winner of the US 2019 Doodle for Google national competition last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon!
“When I grow up, I hope to care for my mom as much as she cared for me my entire life,” Arantza wrote in the statement submitted with her artwork, entitled Once you get it, give it back, which appears today on the Google homepage. In Arantza’s Doodle, there is a framed picture of her mother carrying Arantza as a baby─inspired by a real picture in her house of her mom holding her sister. Below the picture is Arantza, caring for her mom when she’s older in the future.
Arantza started drawing when she was three years old and wants to publish alternative graphic novels and comics in the future. She graduated as valedictorian of Arabia Mountain High School in DeKalb County, Georgia, and will be attending the University of Southern Califonia in the Fall.
Described by her mother as someone who “lights up any room she is in,” Arantza is currently teaching herself how to skateboard when she’s not focusing on her school work and visual arts.
Arantza dreams of one day being able to help her mom do all the things in life she hasn't been able to yet, such as traveling around the world.
Congrats again to Arantza and thanks to all the students who shared their dreams and creativity with us this year!

Doodle 4 Google 2018 - US Winner

Over the last decade, we’ve been privileged to receive hundreds of thousands of submissions for our annual Doodle for Google contest—submissions that reflect the dreams, hopes, and talents of students across the country. For our 10th year, we asked students to respond to the theme “What inspires me…” and received Doodles depicting everything from a love of family and food to a passion for intergalactic roller coasters!
Today, we’re thrilled to share the work of our 2018 Doodle for Google winner on the US Google homepage: 2nd grader Sarah Gomez-Lane, who drew delightful dinosaurs to highlight her dream of becoming a paleontologist! We fell in love with Sarah’s rendering of her dinos, and were blown away by her big (you might even say “dino-sized”!) ambitions for her future, especially at her young age.
For the first time in Doodle for Google’s 10-year history, Sarah got to collaborate with the Doodle team to transform her artwork into an animated, interactive experience. She also received $30,000 toward a college scholarship, and her elementary school in Falls Church, VA will receive $50,000 to spend on technology to help students like Sarah continue to pursue what inspires them.
Huge thanks to our talented 2018 winners and everyone else who has shared their creativity with us over the last ten years. From all of us at Google: keep dreaming—and keep doodling!

For your own chance to be a Doodle for Google winner, head over to doodle4google.com to enter your submission before the contest closes on March 18th!
Our guest judges this year are none other than Jimmy Fallon, the host of “The Tonight Show”, Kermit the Frog, and the 2018 National Teacher of the Year, Mandy Manning. Kermit dropped by “The Tonight Show” to ring in the new year with his fellow judge, Jimmy and celebrate the contest opening for submissions. Here's what they had to say.
