Bahrain National Day 2018

A cluster of 30 islands near the southwest coast of the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is located between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The country’s name derives from the Arabic al-bahrayn, meaning “two seas.” This year, Manama (the capital city on the largest island) will be the focal point for celebrations of Bahrain’s National Day, which actually lasts for two days starting December 16. Bahraini citizens spend this time away from work with friends and family, enjoying fireworks, musical and cultural festivals, and exhibitions.
The holiday marks the anniversary of Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa’s ascension to the throne in 1961. The first emir of Bahrain ruled for over 30 years, bringing about the country’s independence from Great Britain as well as ushering in democratic reforms and stabilizing the country as it developed into one of the region’s most diverse and thriving economies.
Happy National Day, Bahrain!
