Brazil Independence Day 2018

Brazil National Day 2018.
Today Brazil celebrates its independence with parties and parades. In local communities in North and South America, people can be found enjoying traditional food and drink—such as shrimp ceviche or the bean and pork stew feijoada washed down with a caipirinha—and swaying to the rhythms of samba music. The epicenter of the festivities is the capital city, Brasília. Some 30,000 citizens gather as a military parade passes through the Esplanade of Ministries, which features some of the best known works of Oscar Niemeyer – the modernist architect who created striking buildings all over Brasília, often in collaboration with public artist Athos Bulcão. The Esplanade of Ministries includes some of Niemeyer's most striking designs, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, a crown made of 16 curved columns. The streets of Brasilia are a great place to spend the national holiday. In smaller cities families grab a snack at a street cart, watch the local parade, and enjoy the fireworks. Happy National Day, Brazil!
